Waking up early

For the last few weeks I have been going to sleep at my normal time (10ish) or earlier during the week and have been waking up at 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning. At first I will think its about time for my alarm to go off (7am), then I'll look at the clock and see its way too early and try to go back to sleep. But I usually end up awake the whole time thinking about having to wake up soon. Why do I wake up so early? Could this be a sleep disorder or just stress?

I have been having the same problem. I go to bed around the same time everynight, but now seem to wake up earlier than normal. I to have been wondering if I have some kind of sleep disorder, but with the way my life has been going I am pretty sure mine has to do with stress.

I know from experience that staying awake thinking about someone keeps you awake. The fact that you are thinking about having to wake up soon could be what is keeping you from falling asleep until your alarm goes off.

When this happens do you notice yourself becoming tired earlier than normal at night? I was just wondering because I have noticed that.

I get the same problem its called insomnia. Its just where you have trouble sleeping in certsain phases of the night.

There can be lots of reasons why people have sleep problems...just a few follow:

poor diet
meds and over the counter supplements
stress
sleep disorders (like central or obstructive sleep apnea)
illnesses like Lyme Disease, Depression, Fibromyalgia, etc.

If these problems interfer with daily life, or if they become chronic, a physician should be consulted to rule out physical problems, and if the physical health is ok, they should refer you to a board certified sleep specialist.

I am glad I found this board. As soon as winters ends and there is a little more light I wake early as well. I have sleep apnea - obstructive. But I have always been this way with the change of seasons. I am thinking it may be a seratonin boost from extra daylight. It drives me nuts and I get some anxiety and stress until my new season really gets rolling. *long sigh* It's always something.
