Hear myself snoring

I know sleep is a complicated phenomenon, and nobody is really sure why we need it...but we will die after enough hours constantly awake.
There must be many levels of sleep consciousness. The other day, I was taking a nap, set my alarm and everything. Well, I was asleep, on some level, possibly in a "light" state. I could hear everything that was being said on the TV, and I could hear myself snoring. I was fully aware of everything going on, yet, I was asleep. Very strange. I thought you had to be "fully" asleep to snore.
