Fatal insomnia?

I am worried after reading about this very rare disease (Fatal insomnia). I was just wondering if I sleep about 7-8 hours a night (maybe with 1 or 2 wake ups in the middle of the night) I feel like i haven't slept at all. Sometimes it's a groggy feeling, other times just feels like I never went to bed. It's weird, but I'm not sure if it's related to stress because I have been having fatigue problems for past 2 months and it just wont go away. Been through various tests such as blood tests and a sleep study. Sleep study came back perfectly normal but I am not sure if sleep studies can verify fatal insomnia. Just worried and wanted to know if you can still sleep but not get restorative sleep and still have this disease.

Re: Fatal insomnia?

You may simply not be getting Delta sleep. I have had insomnia all of my adult life. I am 37 now. I don't get delta sleep with out medication. I have gone weeks at a time with and hour or two only. I would suggest see your doctor.

Re: Fatal insomnia?

Well I have been to a sleep study and they didn't have any concerns of sleep stages or anything else for that matter. I will go back to my doctor and discuss the situation into further detail when I seem him again. Just wondering if their is an underlying cause for this because I have always been a deep sleep and super groggy in the morning and ever since beginning of January I have been the total opposite. I have been getting a lot of pressure behind my eyes lately too and heard that can cause problems with your sleeping habits. Thanks for the replies too.
