Light sleepers and daytime sleepiness

After some prolonged periods of stress my sleep has become extremely light. Causing me to wake during sleep from noises, temp changes and sometimes i will have anxiety and racing thoughts. This I believe has caused me to get unrefreshed nights of sleep and causing daytime sleepiness. Doctors have ruled everything else out.

Any light sleepers in here? My doctors gave me a 10 day worth of samples of Ambien CR as well as Lunesta. Said that both do the same thing, but side effects are different.

Has anyone had boughts of light-unrefreshing sleep were a sleep aid has helped? I've tried OTC stuff before as well as Trazodone and it helped me fall asleep, but didn't keep me asleep. I wake 4-5 times throughout the night due to noises and temp changes but 75% of the time I can fall back asleep within 10 minutes.

Re: Light sleepers and daytime sleepiness

Hi,

I am a light sleeper as well, as a matter of fact I wear earplugs to drown out the noise and also run a fan to help out. Last night I didn't fall asleep til 3 am! Sometimes I'll go to sleep like at 11 then wake up at 2 and then can't fall back to sleep for like an hour. I have terrible daytime sleepiness but have also been diagnosed with Addison's disease (adrenal disorder). Maybe try the earplugs and fan and maybe that will help. Good luck, CJ

Re: Light sleepers and daytime sleepiness

I am a super light sleeper. I have ear plugs jammed in my ears and wear a sleep mask. ANY hint of sound, light, movement, smell, or temp change will instantly wake me up. It totally sucks. I have been this way my whole life. I have tried Melationin, Ambien, Klonopin, Flexeril, Benadryl, just about every antidepressant or antianxiety med out there. Nothing helps. It is like I am immune to them. So I am tired all day but can't even nap if I try. I sooo feel for you. Keep trying to get help. Whatever it takes. Our life span will be shortened because of this.

Re: Light sleepers and daytime sleepiness

Well for the first time in almost 7 years, I had the best 3 nights sleep!! With... Lunesta! I took 2mg's the first two nights and 3mgs last night. My GF came home after working a really late evenign shift and she didn't wake me up. I use to wake at the slightest noise and she even told me she had the light on and everything. I remember taking it and lying and bed, and then I woke up 8 hours later. I still feel a little tired, but I'm not sure if that's my body catching up wtih me AND... I have season allergies now thanks to all the tree pollen in my area... UGH!

I'm going to ask for my doctor to give me a few weeks work of the Lunesta to see if it helps me.

Re: Light sleepers and daytime sleepiness

AlwaysTired, I'm glad it worked. Hope it continues to work, keep us updated. I have the same problem but haven't tried any sleep meds yet. Still checking out possible causes like apnea. Keep us updated in a few weeks, really hope it works without any issues.
