Sleep restriction for early waking question

Hello everyone,

About 14 years ago, I suffered with a 5 year bout of horrible insomnia. I was finally able to overcome it...first with sleeping meds, then naturally. I have now been struck by it again. My problem now is not falling asleep like it was years ago, but staying asleep. I fall asleep around 10-10:30, wake up once or twice, then seem to wake up for good around 4 am. My alarm is set for 6:15. Sometimes I will drift off and on for a few minutes at a time, but it is getting rarer and rarer. Then, my hubby gets up at 5, so even if I do drift, that tends to get me back up. I know that sleep restriction works, because I used a modified plan of it before. However, I now CANNOT keep my eyes open past 10:30. Has anyone tried using this, but getting up earlier instead of staying up late?

I saw a sleep therapist for awhile, and he he would suggest that you try extend your bedtime to 11pm for a later wakeup time, and after maybe a week, change it to 10:45... Then 10:30 after another week. I've had similar problems and still do. Easier said than done...

So basically....don't drive yourself crazy nitpicking over the amount of hours...hust go to bed later! Sounds so much less stressful!
