My 7 year old son suffers from sleep apnea and it worries me a lot ( damage to his heart etc...)but doctors don't seem too concerned about it ( does anyone think they should be)...
He is on a waiting list to have grommets fitted because he has glue ear and they are going to remove his adenoids at the same time (but not his tonsils which I think is odd as they are quite large).
I understand (from using this board) that removing his adenoids will cure his sleep apnea but obviously I'm worried about the general anesthetic risks and also the risk of him developing hypernasal speech as a result of the adenoidectomy.
I know that his glue ear will eventually clear itself up and that the adenoids will shrink on their own so my main reason for going ahead with the surgery was to stop the sleep apnea from causing damage to his heart. Now I have heard of CPAP ( I don't know very much about it though)I am wondering if it's suitable for children and if so why wasn't I offered this ....I am absolutely terrified of my son having surgery

Can anyone reassure me or give me advice or anything????? Please??
Thanks...........Margy
