Aspirin lowers body temperture which is sometimes helpful in encouraging sleep. Be careful with Ambien and Xanax. They are both very addictive despite what a doctor will tell you. Type benzo withdrawal in your search, and a list will appear. The first on the list, a website from the U.K., is very good.
The thing is, both these drugs work good for awhile and then one day, they don't anymore. Tolerance to sleep drugs is very bad because the brain takes a long time to make natural sleep again, and the pills will not work, or only work a little. Best to taper off and find other ways to sleep well, like vigorous exercise, milk, good diet, no alcohol or cigarettes. Also, have a physical to rule out sleep bandits like thyroid disease. Common OTC drugs and herbs could cause insomnia as well as some prescriptions so check them for sources of bad sleep too. Otherwise, alot of patience and time to let the brain learn to sleep on it's own again.
Also, mixing two CNS depressants like Ambien and Xanax together is a bit dangerous, especially if you start needing higher doses later.
