Usually an adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy would help with sleep apnea in a child. As far as I am aware, those two tend to help cause the problem. If you are worried, don't wait to hear from the doctors, contact them and see how soon it could be done. If you still feel concerned, seek a second opinion.
