Post Sleeping Problems

Here is my story Im a 19 year old, I have Tourette Syndrome. I also have a very hard time staying awake during the day and it is getting worse. Just last week I was at the library and I fell asleep on the floor. I was walking back from class recently and I stopped in my tracks and started to sleep. Im in college and it is giving me a really hard time because with my ts and me not being able to stay awake it is becoming imposible. I sleep 10-11 hours at night. Then when I wake up Im not tired until about 1 hour after I get up. I take like dosing offs that last about 15-20 min, I take about 3-4 of those a day. Then I also take a 2-3 hour nap every day. This is really starting to interfere with my grades in college. My doctor thought it was the meds so he put me on Provigil, that basically kept me awake during the day. He took me off Provigil when I went off the med I was on, but I have been getting worse ever since. I went in for a sleep study and they said it wasn't sleep apnea, so what else could it be?

I kind of think it might be something in your meds (if you are on any).. Maybe try to drink more caffinne and sugar to keep yourself awake. Are you taking any other meds (from other doctors) that could be interacting?

How long has it been this bad? If its just been a few weeks take a look something you changed in your diet, or routine

Maybe attempt to sleep in shifts instead of so long at night... My dad has apnea (caused by him stopping breathing, he falls asleep in the middle of sentences sometimes), he has a routine of sleep at night for 6 hours stay up for around 4-6 then take a 1-2 hour nap, then continue a routine of the same thought the day. (I am not a doctor and have the oposite of what you have, but I am telling you what he does)

Its not all bad tho!! My dad owns a multimillion dollar company so dont let this make you depressed, you will get over it or learn to deal with it in time.

You may also want to check if it is something with your hormones ot thyroid, when you are 19 your body is supposed to be awake more than sleep (normally), so it could be something like that. Go to your doctor (call them) make sure you have a list of all your meds, and also make sure to try to write down when and where you sleep... there might be a pattern.

What kind of MD is treating you? Why did she/he not put you back on the Provigil? Did the sleep lab do a Multiple Sleep Latency Test? Did they take blood for Haplotype testing? If not, why not? When is your next follow up? What "Med" did you come off of that was suspected of causing the daytime sleepiness?

Im sorry but been really busy lately. The incompetent technician swore to me that I didn't have sleep apnea. But when the results came back there was a huge printout and it showed I have Moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Im going to get my CPAP set up tonight (Wish me Luck). Does insurance cover this CPAP at all? Also when should I expect for the homecare provider to bring the CPAP to my house? I think im going for the nose to back of my head mask instead of the full facial one. I also heard that I should get one with a humidifier because I have allergies, what do you guys think?
