sleep apnea in my baby - Sleep Disorders Message Board

My baby is 11 weeks old, and was just diagnosed with sleep apnea. He wakes up all night, never sleeping for more than 1 hour at a time, and also snores very loudly. The doctor is trying a steroid nose spray for him to start with, and if that doesn't work, will then send him to have his sleep monitored. Can anyone please tell me if there is something I should be doing for my baby, such as propping him up to sleep, that will help him breath? This is making life very hard, as he screams constanly from trying to breath, and it is very difficult to feed him too. Any ideas will be very much appreciated.

if i were you i would have my pediatrician have your baby be monitored in the hospital now and have an ent dr look up his nares and make sure he has no obstruction...a 3 month old can only breathe thru his nose...does he have a cold? mucous? is he on an apnea monitor?...sleeping only one hr at a time is not healthy....and being unable to eat because of not being able to breathe is a dangerous situation...i dont mean to alarm you but if this situation is true i would not hesitate to bring him to a hospital immediately... keep us posted

Hi Ozark, thankyou for your concern. My boy seems to be doing a little bit better now, and isn't struggling as much to breath. He has his nose spray once per night, and is actually starting to sleep for 7 hours, without waking!! That is heaven for me!! His snoring has even quietened down. I'm hoping that this spray works, and we don't have to take him to the hospital to have any tests. If he starts to have any more problems, I'll be taking him back to his doctor, to demand tests straight away. But for now, things have improved a lot. Once again, thanks for your concern.
