I smoked for 17 years & finally quit!!! My 6 yr old son came home from school one day & said "Mom, don't you love me?" I said "Of course I do!" He asked "Then why do you smoke? You're going to die & leave me." That was step 1...the desire to quit. I bought a "step-down" brand of cigarettes called "Quest". Low nicotine to extra low nicotine to nicotine free (trace amounts of nicotine). (I got them at the local convenience store.) It was MUCH easier then I ever expected. I would have quit years ago if I knew it would have been so easy. Besides, the nicotine-free cigs taste so bad you really want to give it up! It's been 3 months. It took some time to get over the after dinner craving. I found just breathing deep-like inhaling without the cigarette-a couple of times helps. When I told my son I quit, he wrapped his arms around my legs & said "That's my girl!" Good luck to all you quitters!!

That's wonderful willow42!!!...very happy for you! 3 months is a great accomplishment. Sounds like your little one was a good motivator for you!

I have been quit now for 4+ months, after smoking for around 30 years a pack per day. I have quit about 10 times, but I'm feeling more secure about this quit being the last quit...IT BETTER BE, cuz I'm getting tired of doing this!!

Yeah sometimes it takes hearing it from a child before anyone listens - I guess because we worry more about their feelings than our actual health, but when you think about all the pain you would inflict if you weren't here due to loved ones missing you so much and needing you - helps you keep your quit all the more.

We just have to stay focused and not let our guards down and remember = whatever you do............DO NOT SMOKE. LOL

Glad to hear from another person who stopped smoking using Quest Cigs!! It just kind of happened for me too. Just like you I started wanting just to step down and see if it would be any easier. I haven't really heard alot from any one about this stop smoking method. When I went on line the company sent me information about Quest and I was discouraged because it is not marketed as a stop smoking method. I was already into step 2 so I decided to continue anyway because at least it was less nicotine. I fiqured it was not more money really cause I was already buying cigs..when I had stopped before using patch and just stopping. My craving to smoke seemed alot stronger than this time. Just like you I was very suprised at how I just naturally wanted to smoke less and within a week of level 3's I just stopped. I know I sound like a spokesperson for Quest but if it can help someone else stop smoking then why not give it a try. Good luck to you. Queen B.
