The big day has arrived!

I'm finally going to do it! I've been thinking about it for so long and I finally think that I am prepared to go forward. I no longer want to smoke, pay the money to risk my health. I'm tired of going outside in this freezing weather to have a puff. I've been reading the book by Allen Carr on the easy way to quit smoking and it has really motivated me. He still can't make me do it because I have to want it bad enough on my own but he has helped me to see the light. I plan on being here to help me through the difficult times. I hope to have your support. I'm actually looking forward to being smoke free tomorrow. Spirit

Re: The big day has arrived!

That's AWESOME Happy - CONGRATS on joining the smoke free group - welcome

So what is A Carr's book all about or the jist of it - he sounds familiar. He's right - you have to want to quit - but you know - you're ready! It's ok to admit we enjoyed smoking, but now we choose not to smoke. We are saving our lives. Go back and read all of the earlier threads here - they'll help alot.

We have a nice support group here and love adding more to the group We'll be here for you and just make sure you have a plan for your trigger moments (e.g., if you get mad and normally light up - now what will you do? Pace around or ? I just do what I normally did but without a cancer stick), make a list of all the reasons you feel so strongly about quitting and keep them all over, print off nasty pictures of people that have holes in their throat or are missing toes/fingers from smoking circulatory diseases, etc... If your own might doesn't help - the nasty pictures will or the scare of cancer or emphysema. Nothing nice and very painful from what I've read.

You can also read the lung cancer boards here and they'll scare you into keeping your quit. LOL

You've made the right decision and now you begin your new life and you'll smell SOOOOOO good - vanity reasons are enough to stay quit.

Laurie

Re: The big day has arrived!

Carr's book is about getting out of the brain washing that got us into thinking that we can't quit smoking. Get your mind out of thinking it is so difficult to quit. We were non-smokers at one time and so we can be that way again. One thing that sticks in my mind that he wrote about was having a smoke after a meal. A non-smoker doesn't have to have a cig after a meal so why do we. It's how our brain is programmed into thinking. Why is it I have to smoke after a meal? It doesn't make a meal taste better. I don't think smoking even tastes good. It doesn't feel good to do it either. He says the nicotene leaves the body after 2-3 days and after that it is just what we are used to doing. A habit. My father in law and I got into a discussion once about smoking (he's a former smoker) and I told him that it is so hard to quit and he let me know that yes it is difficult but it isn't impossible. I never forgot that and now I hope it stays in my mind. Thanks for the reply.

Re: The big day has arrived!

Hey there HappySpirit--

Welcome to the quit smoking group and I wish you the best of luck on your QUITDAY and beyond. You have made a very life affirming decision to quit and one that you won't regret. Please come here for support and guidance when ever you need to.

The book sounds good. Thanks for bringing it up. Sounds like something good to read before quitting, but probably wouldn't hurt us to read it even after we have quit.

Have a good quit day...
DEDA
