Re: Monday is Q day!

Welcome Dindrane--

Great news that you're quitting smoking! I quit 4.5 months ago. I smoked a pack a day, (sometimes if I was stressed about something even more than that), for 30 years. I have quit at least 10 times now. Hopefully, this will be my final quit. This is the first time I quit with the help of a message list, so this has helped a bunch. I also quit by using the patch. It was a big help to me, too. There are a lot of people here that will also give you support. Altho today I don't know where everyone is!!! Guess they're starting the weekend early! LOL! But you will hear from them later, I'm sure!

Please tell us a little more about Dindrane, like...how much did you smoke, how many years, how many quits, etc...

We're here to help ourselves and help others to quit and stay quit. Sometimes it helps just to come here and vent. Hope to see you soon!

Re: Monday is Q day!

That's great Dindrane and please go bk and read the threads here and make sure your plan is in place. I've heard of TONS that quit smoking using the patches so you'll be fine - just make sure you cover your trigger moments (boredom, upset, stress, etc.. what will you do when that happens?), and make a list of why you feel so strongly about quitting and keep it with you at all times just in case you ever have a weak moment. BUT even if you have weak moments (I've had some over the last 87 days) - you DO NOT SMOKE. I would debate myself out of them and didn't want to stink so bottom line - you just don't smoke.

We'll be here for you and keep you in our prayers, but I believe when you say it's time - it's time so no worries for you. Start getting excited about all the great changes/benefits that will be coming your way from improving your health.

Oh and this IS Deda's last quit - she didn't type that right I'm here to tell ya. LOL

Re: Monday is Q day!

I have smoked for about 13 years - I'm 28. Hubby and I have been trying to get pregnant for well over a year now - this is the most important thing to me so I want to quit so when the time does come the baby won't suffer.
I have noticed a lot lately the smell in my hair and on my clothes when I walk into a no smoking place. I have also noticed the shortness of breath and how the smoke actually hurts my throat instead of 'feeling good' like it used too. I find myself bored with it as well. It's waaaaaaaay to exspensive and strokes/heart problems run in my family. And ya know, I'm really tired about worrying about NOT having enough smokes to last the week, that in itself is stressful, so I think I've had enough. Lots of reasons to quit!
I have attempted to cut back and quit once, just recently actually - but I had some health problems and fell back into smoking because of the stress <ironic eh? lol>, but I can't use it as a cussion anymore.
I'm sure the patch is going to help out greatly. This week when I get my cheque I'm going to buy myself something - this way I can physically see what I've been missing out on because of the money I have been spending on smokes.
Hubby just left for work and I had my last smoke about an hour ago. I am not putting a patch on until tomorrow morning because I'm not sure how I will react to it, best to be awake then to be sleeping and end up having some kind of a reaction.
I'll probably be back 5-6 times each day for the next little while - babbling about stuff, LOL don't mind me as I ramble on. *grin*.
When I spoke with my doctor about the patch and quitting, she asked if I had done any info searches on quitting - she was surprised with all the info I gave her, this is why she gave me the prescription so fast... which I'm glad for.
So here I go, embarking on my new life as a non smoker. Tomorrow I will be making a list and posting it on my board next to me - and hopefully if I can get my printer working, print some pictures off as well.
Talk to ya all soon!

Blessings,
Dindrane
