My Last Day

Today Feb, 16th is the very last day I am slowly killing myself with cigarettes. I start the patch tonight. I have been working toward my quit day for 30 days (today). I have been a regular smoker for 20 years and I am only 33 years old. My father died of cancer in 1998 he was 50, ever since that day I have felt GUILT every time I light up because I can't stand the thought of putting my daughter through that emotional turmoil, when it has always been a concious choice to smoke. I am now making a concious choice to be a NON Smoker. I find myself here on these boards reading all the posts and getting support just from reading them. It is and will be a tremendous HELP!!

A PAT on the back for all of you who have quit, are considering quitting and are hear to share you struggles and triumph's.

Re: My Last Day

Hello there smokefreeme....love your user name, but now you must live up to it!!!! LOL!!!

Congratulations on making this very life affirming decision. I smoked 30 yrs, a pack or more per day, and am now 4.5 months quit. Used patches first and then nic gum.

You will find that the first week quit is the very toughest part of it, and then it will become much easier for you. The patch will help you a lot too. Come here and post all that you need too. (read from the archives as well) Any time you need support, we will try to help. Keep busy and try not to stress during this time about other things going on in your life. (at least for a couple of weeks).

Keep in touch and good luck!!!!!
DEDA

Re: My Last Day

Day One has begun. I am really surprised I am not nic fitting this morning. I guess this is how the patch works? Excellent. I have been awake for an hour and have counted 3 times i went to reach for a smoke, each time I have found it the habit part of my routine and I say to myself "I don't smoke and don't want to smoke" the habit part of the addiction/ craving is lasting less than min.
Still VERY excited about this process!

Thanks for your reply D and WAY TO GO on your success!!

Re: My Last Day

good for you!!!

today is day #3 for me.... it's a little easier then i thought it would be... but i also REALLY want to quit this time..... i find that A LOT of my habit was just that..... just the need to "do something"..... the first day i ate a TON ... but, gave myself that for that one day..... these last 2 days i've been eating normally... however, i have noticed a couple pounds already on the scale!!!! i know it messes with your metabolism.... and i'm willing to put on a couple pounds in order to quit!!

keep up the good work... oh, by the way, i've quit cold turkey... its the only way i've successfully done so in the past.....

Re: My Last Day

I'm at four or five weeks now. It gets much easier as time goes on. I met a new man, very nice man, but he smokes when he drinks! I sat with him all night Friday and it didn't bother me, oddly enough. The funny part is that I was so nervous and excited the next day I wanted a cigarette. I didn't do it, but it's interested that potential love could trigger the urge! Just keep going and we'll all be happy non-smokers together!!!
