Anyone else quitting now?

Man, today was my first day without a cigarette. This is horrible to go through this part. I started crying at work today uncontrollably. It was so embarrassing. I am actually feeling pretty good about it now, but the problem is......is that I constantly think about smoking. I mean, non stop! I want to read about it, I want to talk about it, it's like the thoughts will just not go away. I know the next two days will probably be as rough. I constantly hear a voice in my head that says "Get a cigarette" Then another voice comes in and says "Ok, oh, Wait! No, you quit!"

I just wish someone I worked with, would quit smoking so I could talk with someone through this. One of my coworkers says they are going to quit on May 1st, but I didn't want to wait that long.

To make matters worse, I felt compelled to discuss with all my smoker friends, why they should quit. I turned into that person that drove me nuts when I was a smoker! Here I haven't quit smoking for a full 24 hrs yet and I am giving lectures! Anyone else go through this? God, what is wrong with me. I am not going to have any friends by the time this is all done with.

Yes, I'm quitting now. This makes my 13th day that I haven't used tobacco. The crying and obsessive thoughts that you're having are all normal and are part of the healing process. They will soon pass, so hang in there. Having someone to talk to or that can relate to is very important. That's why these boards are so great. It's full of people just like you.

Best of luck to you, Kelly

Dave

Re: Anyone else quitting now?

Yes Kelly we've all been there done that. LOL It doesn't bother me that I was a Kelly before because my motto was "whatever it takes" to quit smoking - so be it.

I'm sure your friends and other smokers (if they've tried to quit before) or exsmokers know what you're going through. It really does consume your thoughts for the first week or so. Just hang in there - it'll get better.

Don't forget why it is that you felt so strongly about quitting - it's important that you write it down and keep it with you. Think of your skin and health. That in itself should make it easier for you. Who wants bad skin, teeth, or health?

It's really hard to not be a promoter of stopping smoking once you stop because the benefits sooooo outway smoking so when you care about people - you want them to reap the same benefits or at least not die from it.

Always remember that it's not the unsociable part to think of - it really can kill you - that is why we all quit!

Stay strong and my prayers are with you - keep coming out here - we'll support you and also read all the threads/archives - they should help you alot.

Great job Kelly

Laurie

Re: Anyone else quitting now?

Well, I made it through another day. Day 2! I thought I was going to give in to smoking today. I had the voice say "get a cigarette" and I thought for about 2 minutes. Why am I doing this to myself? Just smoke a cigarette and be happy instead of going through all this torture. Then one of my co workers who smokes walked by me right at that second and his cigarette literally made my stomach upset. So I snapped myself out of those thoughts of giving in and pulled through another day. I can't wait for it to get easier. It will probably be ok after a week or so. I hope! It's funny that I can't stand cigarette smoke now. I got one of my coworkers to attempt to quit smoking, he's cut back......we all know how that goes though. I got another girl at work to start thinking about it. Oh well. I am just needing to vent. I feel like a space case on this Zyban.
