Alright, it's been 13 days since I've had a cigarette, and about 4 days ago I noticed that I was getting my sense of taste and smell back. It happened pretty suddenly too. I made myself a ham sandwich, which used to be one of my favorite things to eat, and it tasted like ca-ca. Then I tried some cheese, and it tasted like ca-ca too. I've discovered in the past few days that almost no food tastes good to me. Even my toothpaste is nasty. I've also got about 4 canker sores on my tongue all of a sudden, and they are driving me insane.
Eating and smoking used to be two things I really enjoyed. I've quit smoking but now I can't even enjoy food. I've also lost alot of my appetite, as has my hubby. I think alot of that has to do with things tasting like crap though. This has all got me kinda down, so if anyone has any uplifting advice, I'll take it right now. Is this a normal thing to happen to people who quit? If so, does it last forever or is it just something to get used to?
I know that it's normal for taste and smell to change after you quit, I just always thought that the taste would change for the better, not worse. Anyway, thanks for listening and any words of wisdom, or even words without wisdom, will be appreciated.
I went through something like that, and I still have it at times. (I think mine is from my acid reflux tho). Go to the 3rd page of the message index list here, and scroll down to my message, "Funny Odd Taste in Mouth". One of our past members here posted part of an interesting article about this.
Hang in there, I really think it will go away soon.
Thanks Deda. I did go back and read that post, I'm just not sure if that's what I'm experiencing. I don't have a bad taste in my mouth, it's only when I eat something. I figure it has something to do with getting my sense of taste back, but like I said, I just thought it would make food taste better instead of worse. Hopefully it won't last long though. If anyone else has any ideas on this, please let me know. Again, thanks for the help Deda.
Hi Mandy - right after I quit 2 months ago, my food didn't taste good. When I had a beer - I love a cold beer now and then - it tasted awful. Even after two months, food does not taste any different to me. What happened to this "Oh, your food is going to taste so much better"????? I don't taste food any better, my sense of smell is exactly like it used to be. The only thing that has changed since I quit was I know I smell better instead of like smoke. Oh yeah, and there's that health thing too......laura
