My partner has quit and i need advice - Smoking Cessation Message Board

Hi Ladies,

My partner has decided to quit smoking after 10 years, due to us buying a house together and most of his monthly allowance has been spend on fags and he can never afford to go to watch the footy, even though he has a season ticket he cant afford the bus and drinks.

So yesterday was his first day without a ***, he was doing well, but last night he complained of feeling ill and tired so he put himself to bed. (we are staying with his parents until the house is decorated) so i went away to house to paint, when i came back he was up but was really arsey. We went to bed and during the night he has complained of being really cold, and his joints aching and stuck to me like a baby monkey to its mother! I had to rap him in a blanket under the ****t to try and make him comfortable he eventually went bnack to sleep.

This morning he complained of his head hurting and he couldnt take it off the pillow and his joints still aching? He is coughing, but he is still pleased that he has stopped, as smoking was hurting his throat.

So this is my dilemer, i dont smoke, only when i was 14 and thought that it looked cool, i need to understand what he is going through? are these withdrawal symptoms normal? or has he got man flu?? , he isnt using patches or gum, and i know they arerecommended. His mum has just supposidly quit smoking, well she smokes when she goes to the bingo and when she is drunk at home and no one is around! so i hope that he doesnt think that thats ok!

Please help!!

All that you have described are possible symptoms of withdrawal from smoking. Things do get better.

It is a very good idea to abstain from alcohol and stay away from places where it is being consumed for awhile because many people strongly associate drinking with smoking and drinking can lower one's resolve to stay quit.

Myself and dh both quit at the same time, we were really dog rough for a week after, we both got terrible colds and sore throats and were freezing, headachey, snappy (god, i wanted to bite the head off anyone who spoke to me or got in my way), anyhow, it got better after about 7 days ish, we quit the cheats way though - we both had accupuncture, but you still have to have the will power and you still get all the after effects.

I wish him well, its hard and at times rough but its great to wake up in the morning and not have such a disgusting taste in your mouth.
