decision made

I decided today to start my quit smoking routine. I got my script for welbutrin today, and I thought about going cold turkey, but don't think I can. Instead I am trying to spread out my smokes. I usually average one every 45 mins, sometimes two or three. Now I am spreading that out to every two hours if I can. I smoke the most in the car, so that will be the kicker. But, hubby and I went out to a furniture store tonight and it was the first time I didn't take my smokes with me. I would have smoked two to three on that trip. Instead of buying a carton tomorrow like I usually would, I will get a pack and try to make that last as long as possible. I know the welbutrin will take a couple of weeks to take effect, so I will work on slowing my numbers in the meantime and maybe get the inhaler or gum. Do I need a script for either? I decided to quit a month earlier than I had planned. For some odd reason, I am finding smoking not as much fun anymore, just a stupid habit like biting my cuticles or popping a zit (sorry if that was gross). But, you know what i mean. So, please, everyone cross your fingers for me, and if you have any advice to send my way, please do!

Re: decision made

I am doing really well so far! Yesterday I only smoked four cigs, and I made one pack last two days. I am going to shoot for three days next. It is much easier than I thought it would be. I leave them in the car so I don't have them right there looking at me all day. When I drive, I try to smoke only one during a round trip. So, we'll see.

Re: decision made

Hi Mel, first of all I want to congratulate you on your decision to quit. I was forced to make my decision. Wish I had been smarter. I haven't smoked since Aug and have done it with Wellbutrin and Nicoderm CQ. The Wellbutrin and patches are working great. I still get urges but a piece of sugarless gum helps get passed it. Good luck..Mama Kay

Re: decision made

I am very pleased with myself, and thank you both for checking in with me! I was smoking my last one out of a pack on Friday, on my way to Wal-Mart, when a thought occured to me. It wasn't going to make it any easier to quit by cutting down. It was easy to cut from a pack to six a day, but anything less was too hard. I decided the best thing to do was just QUIT. So, I didn't buy a pack that day. I did smoke two on Sat night when we were out for Halloween, but I actually didn't care for them. and, had no desire when we left to smoke. My hubby and I both had two, then left the pack there. I haven't smoked since, so it has been almost 48 hours complete without one puff. I honestly don't think the two I had should count, cause it just didn't feel the same, but that is okay.
I think I am done-I am a little ****y today, but I am also stressed b/c I am on disability with my back and may have surgery (yet another reason to quit). Got a lot going on. My husband is so proud of me, as welll as the rest of my fam. My sister will be so proud-she is coming to Vegas this week to see me, and it will be the first time in ten years I won't smoke! Will keep you updated on my progress! Lovin' the sugarless bubble gum and tootsie pops!
