Boyfriend - Smoking Cessation Message Board

Hello Everyone, my boyfriend smokes and I have been telling him that I want him to quit. He says that he does want to quit, but he hasn't made much of an effort. We have been going out for almost a year now, and i really love him and care about him, i just want him to quit now, so he still has a chance to quit, instead of being addicted for life. He always says that he doesn't see why I want him to quit so bad, it's like hello! Do you know what kind of stuff cigarretts can do to you? He was like my lungs are strong, and i said they won't be for long if you keep smoking like this. If anyone can please help me, like tell me some stuff to say to him, or anything that could even possibly help him quit, please respond. Oh, by the way, he's only 18,
but he's been smoking for about 4 years.

Quitting is up to him. You/I/we would like him to quit but it really is up to him. Reflecting on when I was 18, I could not give you any help to make him quit. He needs/wants to do it himself.

My boyfriend willingly told me he wants to quit, but like yours he's been shy to jump into it. But what I did was take control. It's not easy, but everytime he picked up a cigarette, I yanked it out of his mouth and took his pack away from him until he was shaking so badly from withdrawls. I hated to do it, but I got him to cut back ALOT. Maybe this could help??

Hey guys thanks for your advice. Jay232, I've already tried that, it worked for a while, but then he got mad at me. So now he has refrained from smoking around me, but he does it at work and college still. Well gotta run, thanks again guys.
