30 days without a smoke

well it must be a record for me 30 days without a smoke, but the worst part off it is i still fancy one. i was quite a heavy smoker and did smoke for over 30 yrs but one thing i can say is in the 30 days since ive stoped i feel 75% fitter and i feel like i run a marathon also i do not have anymore hypoglycemic problems like nicotine supressing my blood sugar.. i have put a little weight on but i dont give a crap about that especialy i didnt eat much because nicotine supreses appertite as well. so all you smokers out there think again before you light up because if i can pack em in you can...

remember stop smoking and live longer

Re: 30 days without a smoke

Congratulations Barrie...30 days is a milestone, when someone has smoked for a long time! That's wonderful news. I know you still would like one...I did too at the 1 month stage...pretty bad, to be truthful with you! BUT, wait till 6 months down the road, you will be thinking of them less and less, you really will. I'm now at 22 months, and I RARELY think of wanting one. If I do, it's for a second. I hate the thought of me smoking now. Hey, last night my hubby and I went to an Indian casino, and it was smokey in there. I tried NOT to get close to any of em, but it was really bothering me...smelled awful, and I thought, hey, I don't want to be breathing this $hit, that's why I QUIT SMOKING in the FIRST PLACE!!! DUH! Was glad to leave there, and it was great getting outside to the fresh air! You will feel the same way soon! I guarantee you!
I'm glad you're not concerned about the little weight gain. It is no big deal!! I did gain about 13 lbs total, and now I've lost about 8 lbs. Feeling good, and having good health is more important than a few lbs anyway.
Oh, BTW...I received an email from my girlfriend down the street this morning. Her hubby, a 2 pack a day smoker, was diagnosed with throat cancer last month. He just turned 50, and a very active guy...bowls a lot, boating every weekend, etc. She said he was in the hospital for 2 weeks! They removed his upper portion of his voice box, and he has a traech, (sp?), and a feeding tube, and has lost 30 lbs! He still has to under go radiation. Devastating! I feel so badly for him. Made me glad that me and my dh quit! And don't EVER want to go back!
Keep up the good work, Barrie, you're doing great, and you have a great attitude too!
Deda

Re: 30 days without a smoke

Barrie,

YOU DA MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
30 DAYS IS EXCITING ISN’T IT?
Yes you will get cravings now and then but they are not too bad compared to when you started right?

Deda,

So sorry to here about your neighbor friend. My dad a 4 pack a day guy came down with that several years ago. I thought he would never quit. He was terrified that he might never be able to speak again too. He did quit and it went into remission for several years before the whole smoking past damage mess took him just a few months after my mom last year. I will not go into the graphics of how incredibly revolting and horrific his death was to witness. NOBODY should ever see what we did. I will only say that there were separate bills from the hospital for damage done to the walls and ceiling from him too. If he ever knew he would have left us to remember that as his last memory he would have quit years earlier. I still am still hurt by how upset he was for us coming to see him like that. His anguish in the end, mentally too is upseting.

Sorry for venting. PEOPLE WAKE UP!!!

Sincerely
John

JohnDiv--

So sorry about the pain your family has been through. No wonder you are on such a campaign to help others quit! (and you're doing a good job of it, JohnD!)

God bless you,
Deda

Re: 30 days without a smoke

I too quit 42 days ago when I had to have emergency bypass triple heart surgery. I was blocked 100%, 90% and 70% with nary a symptom in my chest. I cut back last November from 1 1/4 packs a day to 5 or 6 a day but I was still smoking. My right carotid artery is clogged too. at least 75% and will have to be cleared in another operation and I can't wait very long as there is a stroke risk.
All those years of smoking 45! and bad family genes almost killed me.
Believe me, it's easy to quit when you almost die. Thats what it took to convince me anyway. Everyone PLEASE quit! You will breathe easier and your heart will love you for it. God only knows if you are a ticking time bomb like I was!
