Crying spells and time perception distortion? - Smoking Cessation Message Board

I quit smoking on July 12th (after a 2 year smoking habit). The anxiety has begun to subside, but lately I've been extremely depressed and cry several times every day. I haven't smoked, though! Days also go by extremely slowly (which I understand is a common withdrawal symptom). It's pretty unbearable. Has anyone experienced this? How long did these symptoms last? Thanks.

After i quit i got really sad and depressed for a short time, it felt like part of me was missing, but that was only for a short time. Days start to speed up and life goes on i promise. Its been 39 days since my last ciggerette, and i feel normal. So please hang in there and the best of luck to you...

Thanks. Congrats to you on quitting. It really has been hard, but I'm still fighting the cravings.

i quit twice years ago,cold turkey and made around 8-9 months. i don't remember what brought me back. that's how stupid it must have been. quit again in feb right before gall bladder surgery. made it 2 months. they were a horrible 2 months. went through menopause at the same time. was unhappy everyday for 2 months. the depression was horrible which i wasn't prepared for. the first time i lit up i felt 100% better and have been smoking ever since regretfully. not smoking makes you feel better physically but the mental swings are very difficult. my suggestion would be to see a dr. and maybe he can give you something to take the edge off. if there is any way you can keep going and not start again i would try it all. i am sorry i didn't/ it is a long hard road and you have to be ready for it.

Yeah, it's been pretty hard. I saw a psychiatrist and am now taking Klonopin for the anxiety, which helps tremendously. And working out every day has helped out a lot as well. Keep trying! It's slowly getting better for me each day, and the mood swings have become less severe.
