getting off the gum

I am in smokers hell. I take alot of the gum during the day and have 3 or 4 cigs at night. The worse is the expense, and the amount that I chew every day, like 30 pieces. On my day off I don't chew that much, it is at work when I am stressed out. I have tryed to go back to the patch but I chew gum on the patch, though I can cut down alot with that. I so love to smoke and the 3 or 4 at night is heaven, but I am gearing up to totally quit again. I'v quit for years at a time. Any experiences on this would be very helpful. Lizard50

Unhappy Re: getting off the gum

Lizard--

Get off the gum, throw out the cigs, and go get some 21 mg patches..stick those on and stay off all other forms of nicotene. You're taking a big risk smoking and using gum, or patches. One way or the other!

And good luck!!

Re: getting off the gum

I chewed a piece of gum the other day for about 3 minutes and then 20 minutes later decided I would try to quit smoking another day. After 3 puffs of the cig I thought I was having a heart attack. My chest tightened up and my heart was RACING BIG TIME. I dont see how you do it. You should be very VERY careful smoking on the patch or gum.

I used the gum to quit for 6 months last year and am qutting again tomorrow for good this time.

Good luck. and DO NOT SMOKE on the patch or gum. Youre taking a serious risk.

Thumbs up Re: getting off the gum

Best wishes go out to you, PezDee!! You will do it this time, girlfriend!! And I so agree with you about NOT smoking with the gum or patch!! BAD idea, people! One or the other!! It's just not worth taking the chance....that's TOO much nicotine at once.

Do it, Pez Dee!!

Re: getting off the gum

Not one to give advice since I blew it last night and had 5 smokes....cant help it ...find the stuff so relaxing...but my problems aside ...anyone who wants to wean off the gum should just try regular gum, it covers the need for oral stimulation and is alot softer than that cement gum. I know it doesn't have the nicotine but is a bit of a crutch to lean on.
