so upset

I went to the doctor today and he asked me how the chantyx was doing.I told him I wanted to use my nicotrol inhaler because chantyx can cause headachs and nausua. I haven't thrown up in many years and don't want to start now. He told me thhe only people that feel sick are the ones that smoke. NOT TRUE I said since you are able to smoke in the beginning or am I wrong???? he said we can manage my headachs (I get several migraines a mmonth) and he in the past told me to get off of the fioricet that had worked so well for me.I have done that also.So I am out of options.I don't want to change doctors because he is very good giving refferals to my husband who still needs so many tests and will in the next few years because of his lung cancer(he is cancer free right now). i can't lie to him because he will know that I am not getting my script filled and asking for future scripts and also there goes my script for the inhaler.HELP ME PLEASE>

Re: so upset

Hi Lorrie,
The first week you take chantix, you are taking 1/2 the dosage and they recommend that you keep smoking. I noticed that I felt some nausea after I smoked while on it, and my cigs weren't tasting so good anymore. I made sure that I ate and drank lots of water when I took my pill. Now that I am not smoking (day 4!) I don't feel that nausea. I never felt like I was going to vomit. I feel totally in control, and have been in a good mood.
It sounds like you have a lot to deal with right now. Are you certain that you don't want to at least try chantix?
Could you take it with some anti-nausea medicine?
Keep us posted on how you are doing.
deb

Re: so upset

Thanks Deb for the reply and congrads on your sucess.I have no choice but to take the chantix. I have been smoking since I was 15 and I am now 62.I smoke two packs a day so it will not be day 4 that I will be smokefree.I just liked the inhaler and should have just used it all the time a few years back. I don't think the doctor would have had a case to tell me only chantix.I fear the migraines they are hard to deal with and I don't like I said need a side effect of headachs.I have a lot to think about.

Re: so upset

lorriem, you have to quit when you want to quit, not when others want you to quit. I am sure there are people out there that never quit. If you do decide to quit, it will be the best health decision you have ever made.

Does your husband smoke? If not, was he a former smoker?

Only you can make this decision, lorriem... here are a few to help you make it!

Re: so upset

Lorriem - you can do this. If you read the boards, there are people who have smoked for 50 yrs and have tried everything to quit!! But nothing worked until Chantix! And it wasn't so bad after all, quitting, being able to breathe again, smelling the fresh air, tasting the good food! You will want to quit, and when you do, we will be here for you, supporting you the entire way. Keep posting and let us know how you're doing....
