Hi
I just wanted to post on here my experience so far with Chantix for smoking cessation. I followed the instructions but didn't quit right away on the 8th day, I wanted to see if the medicine would work all by itself without any large amount of will power on my part. I was on the medication for 2 weeks when all of a sudden I woke up one day and had gone through the majority of the day without even thinking of a cigarette. I am now 7 days smoke free and it has been the easiest attempt I have ever made at quitting. I even have half a pack of cigarettes in my house and I haven't been tempted to smoke them. I am amazed at the results of this medication.
I also have a drinking problem and to my amazement this medication has also stopped my desire to drink ANY alcohol. I feel they need to research this drug for use in helping all kinds of addictions not just for nicotine addiction. I am also in a better mood since I was depressed before taking the medication as well. I think this has been my miracle in MANY MANY ways and I am feeling very grateful to have the ability to use it.
I have exeperienced several of the side effects but they are tollerable given the outcome. I have had insomnia, nausea, and some body aches as well as some headaches. It is important to eat something with it and drink the glass of water with it. I got lazy a few times and I paid for not following the instructions. Anyway by biggest hope for posting this was that they might research this medication for all kinds of addiction therapy, it has really changed my life and I can't even believe the idea of an alcoholic drink and a cigarette sounds like torture to me now instead of something I felt I could never life without before.
Good luck to all you quitters, I think this medicine is going to do wonderful things for many people.
