Unhappy An Ironic Accident...assaulted by Ash Can!

I had an accident as I was leaving work last night. I work 2pm to 10pm and our parking area is very dark...no lights at all. Walking to my car I walked into a 50lb ash can that someone had moved into the walkway. There's a patio/designated smoking area back there and I just didn't see it in the dark. I fell right over the thing hitting my face/cheek bone and right hand on the concrete. My face and hand swelled horribly and I had to go to the ER. Had a CAT scan and luckily nothing is broken...just badly bruised. I do look like a train wreck today as my eye turned black and is still very swollen and I can't move my hand very well. Anyway, it felt good to say "no" when the ER nurse was taking my history and asked if I smoke. I was so pleased to say, "no." But isn't it kind of ironic that I quit smoking over a month ago and then this ash can accident happens?

Karen....

It isn't funny but it kinda is. I'm glad you are okay. That sounds like a horrible fall. And yes, how ironic!

Congrats on your month of being smoke free!

Karen,
Another smoking related accident!! Maybe you need to start carring a little flash light with you like on your key ring. It sounds like you took a pretty nasty fall. You take care of yourself!!
Let me ask you something....did you want to light up after the fall?
You handled the stress of the situation very well. A great big pat on the back for you. YEA!!

Memaw, yes, I'm hurt pretty bad eek: but starting to get better. Yes, I have to say that the pain and trauma of the injury made me crave a cigarette more than any other time since I quit...kept thinking, "I need a cigarette!" It's funny when your stressed or hurt or even if you received some really good news...you want a cigarette. I'm pleased to say I didn't give in. Thanks Memaw and everyone for the sympathy.

So Memaw, what's this about smoking related accidents? Are there a lot of them?

Poor you Karen, but now that you have had lots of practice at dealing with and not giving in to the urge to smoke to know you can do it.

Yes, that is good to know! Thanks for reminding me. I can guarantee that on all my other "quits" the accident would've been the perfect excuse to start smoking again.

Just type in quit meter on your computer and there are several free ones. I think mine is quitkeeper or something like that.
