I have some health issues and I know the smokes have to go. I set a date to quit - April 1. My plan is use the patch. I post on few other boards here and decided to check this one out. In reading some your posts, it sounds like I can find some inspiration and support here.
You guys are amazing! It's so hard to quit, but the payoff is great!
Hi Canada: Here's your first Good Luck in your quit! This group is great and will help you any way possible. A lot of us here are on (or have finished up) Chantix. It's the only thing that has ever worked for me!
WELCOME CANADA! Consider yourself a part of our QUITTERS CLUB. You can do it. My brother who I never dreamed would ever give up smoking did so on the patch last year. He has been smoke free since Sept. 06. It worked for him and it can work for you. Good luck in your effort to QUIT, it is by far one of the most important decisions you have ever made.
Congrats to you! Keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Canada! Well you have found probably one of the nicest group of people here who truly will help you through your quit. There are new quitters, old quitters, month quitters, and all over the board quitters. I too quit with Chantix and would never ever have imagined that it would work but it did. Try to pay attention this weekend to when and why you smoke and if you really need it, or just want it out of habit. It will be really helpful in your quit. And come back here for loads and loads of support!
Hi Canada,
Welcome to no smoking section!! We'll help you get there!!
I just posted a reply to another person thinking about using the patch. So you will have a patch buddy here!! No everyone is on the Chantix!! But it does work!
A very good web site, smokefree.gov has some very good information to help you quit smoking, if you are interested it. It offers 8 booklets that can be downloaded to your computer so you can read them when you get the time. If you will read any and everything you can get your hands on about smoking, it will help to reinforce your quit.
I think April 1 is a wonderful day to quit!!
Good Luck to you!!
Hey Canada!
Welcome in and great luck to you in your quit!
There's a 'ton' of good info and great sources in here along the road to being done with tobacco. We've had about every kind of quitter wander through here, so we aren't all just Chantix-heads.
Anything folks around here can do to help from answering questions to just listening to 'stop-smoking blues' can be a real asset.
This board has been a major weapon in my arsenal against my worst bad habit.
Keep in touch and let us know how it goes!!
Best Regards,
DeadFish
Hey Canada, I used the patch to quit and it worked for me. Welcome to the boards and please come back and ask any questions you have and to let us know how you are doing!!! Congratulations!!!
Thanks to all!
I was reading the "eulogy to NicoDemon" posts and thought I should write a good bye letter to cigarettes on my last day as a smoker. So here goes:
Dear Cigarette,
My little white friend, you have been with me for a long time. Through good times and bad, but somewhere along the line, you turned on me. Polluting my lungs, stinking up my house and making me an unhealthy person. Oh, where did we go wrong...? I remember the good old days. Parties, bars, restaurants, but then you became offensive and unwelcome and we were stuck outside in the cold. (and it gets cold in Canada!)
I am now forced to choose between you and living my life, and for a long time I chose you, but I can't let you control my life anymore. Please don't be mad, I'm sure I will miss you at first, but as time passes, I will feel better and be healthier and won't think of you as often.
Please go quietly, it's really for the best. Thanks for the support over the years, you really helping me through some tough times, but I don't need you anymore. I have found new support.
Hell9o Canada

Brit, I loved your phrase " prison of addiction" dang, isn't that the truth. Thank goodness I finally got out. I am only on Day 7 of my QUIT but I consider myself out on parole. Won't be long and I will feel like I have made a full release.
Canada: Hope you are doing well as you move forward with each passing day. Congrats to you on your decision to QUIT.
Hey Canada! Welcome to the quitters club! Everyone's right about this board - there is tons of supporters out there - whether you're on Chantix, the patch, cold turkey or whatever. Everyone is a quitter and you can be too. I'm so glad I quit, it's the best thing in the world I could've done!! I loved your eulogy to nicodemon - it almost made me cry. I felt the same thing tho, they were a friend, a very bad and evil friend, that was killing us, but a friend nonetheless.
Anyways, good luck on your quit and keep coming back here for moral support!
Everyone else - good luck to you too! I haven't been posting as much - but I see lots of new faces on the board! Sara and Silouette and Little Crazy - welcome to all of you too!! I've been busy enjoying the Florida outdoors, what a great weekend to be a non-smoker!!
