I just made it through my first day...I had planned to wait until tomorrow, but as the day went by, I was okay, so I just went with it. I have some weird symptoms...dizziness, muscle aches or maybe just tension.
I have no nausea still with the chantix...what time in th eevening should you take it? I've been taking it at 4:30 or 5pm.
I definitely need to take this one day at a time...today sometimes it was one hour at a time, but I did it.
Wwish I wasn't so dizzy and spaced out...hard to think straight.
Hi djm! Congratulations!!! You're on your way to becoming a non smoker!!!
The first day is a biggie!!!
The brain fog will be with you for a little while. It should go away after the first week or so. For some it lasted maybe a little longer.
I didn't have the dizziness so I can't help you there. But if it gets too bad, call your doctor!! You may need to reduce your dosage. Same thing with the muscle aches. Call doctor if gets too bad!!! There are some people on here that did cut their dose because of that. Others had to quit taking it completely. So watch that carefully.
Aren't you proud of yourself?!! Should Be!! That is a very big step!!
Keep up the good work. Please let us know how you are doing!!
Good for you, djm!!
Yer on your way now, and had a taste that it *can* be done!
Hang in there, its only one day after the next!
Most of my 'chantix-effects' calmed down after a week or two.
Of course, what amazed me was how 'calmed down' my 'crave' became, for the most part.
Wishing you the best!

Sorry, cannot help you with that one. Been saying it for about 30 years....
Best regards!

this morning the aches are gone ....I think it's tension. I have a gift certificate for a massage....I think I'll use that if they come back.
So far so good .
Today is a really busy day. Last night when I was in bed I was thinking how I can't cope with Monday and the numerous problems today w/o a cigarette, but so far so good. I am still just going hour to hour. If I think about how I'll nver have another one, I go nuts.
Great, Janpo....last night I thought to myself, I'll just have one, and I got into bed, and somehow lying down made the craving go away...no idea why. Put on very boring show, and soon I was asleep....good luck!
You are not alone DJM! I am on day one myself. This is day 8 on Chantix. First full dose was this morning. I think I am fortunate with the side effects. I haven't had near what other people have experienced. It has been rather easy on the craving so far today. Toughest was after lunch, but I am managing my triggers. Good Luck! - Jwande
Thanks Janpo1! IT is still very much on my mind! I know I am dealing with the nicotine withdrawl. Guess I might expect that after smoking for 18 years.
Yes~ it had become part of our daily routines. I smoked for 30 yrs. I can't remember not having done something at sometime without a cig. The hardest part is changing our mind set.
It's very much on my mind also. I do hear though that it get's better and the more time that passes you will go day's without even thinking of a cig!
Hi Jwande,
Welcome to the message board!!
Congratulations on becoming smoke free!! Wonderful decision!
Wished I'd have quit after 18 years. Took me 40 years to quit!!!
Better late than never, tho.
I'm going to post the list of nicotine withdrawal symptoms and the most common Chantix side effects (there are more!). I think it will help all of you new quitters.
Chantix side effects:
headache, sleep problems, insomnia, unusual dreams, nausea, stomach pain, indigestion, vomiting, constipation, gas, weakness, tired feeling, increased appitite, unpleasant taste in your mouth.
Jan and DJ and Mom,
Ya'll are all doing good! Keep it up.
I love how ya'll compare notes with each other. That's good!! Now you can add Jwande to your group!
Are there any others out there that want to join in?
Ya'll keep cheering each other on. And I'll cheer all of you on!!
