I need to quit *now*. Asthma and chronic bronchitis. I'm so upset with myself for not being able to quit for so long! It's been 12 years, and my lungs can't take much more.
What has really worked to quit smoking permanently for others?
What is behind my smoking is anxiety, but I can't take most meds because of the side effects/more addiction issues.
there is a relatively new drug out now called chantix and i've heard that it helped a lot of ppl quit. i got some and am trying it now but it's too early for me to say that it's working......but give it a try,,,,what have you got to lose?
Hi, I am also taking Chantix, I find that it is working for me. 19 days now the only thing that I can say is cold turkey did not work for me.
Good luck to you and I am sure your doctor can put you on the right track.
For me personally I just reached a turning point. I don't know exactly what brought it on, because I had tried to quit many times. One day I just said "no more" and I just stopped. It wasn't easy, but I was mentally committed, and I just did it.
I am going through the same thing with some other meds right now. I tried to quit them a few times but wasn't as serious as I should have been. Finally the light went on and I am committed to it.
Don't know if that works for everyone but it is my story.

i started chantix on wednesday and i'm still smoking, but have noticed that today i seem to not be craving and i haven't smoked as much as i usually do.
so fingers are crossed and onward i go........................peace
I just posted a threat about my brothers experience with chantix. He smoked for nearly 30 yrs, 2 packs a day chain smoker, weak will power, etc... He tried ALL other methods to try and stop but nothing worked till chantix. He was on the pills for 2 weeks, smoked during this time, as the weeks went on he slowed down smoking, then right about the 2 week point he puked when he puffed a cigarette. He said it tasted like dog poop smelled and he is now 4 months later completely quit. He lives with another smoker too who smokes around him and he has zero need or incline to smoke. He pretty much HATES cigarettes now as if he'd been eating crap all these years and just now figured it out.... lol... crazy I know but those are his words.
oh yea... and one more thing worth mentioning... My brother said he doesn't feel empty, hungry or like replacing it with food cause he don't have any craving type of feelings... so no weight gain. It's been 4 months now.
Hey All,
How can i get Chantix? Do i need an RX or is it OTC?
I am excited bcuz i have been wanting to quit for months & it has been heavy on my heart today. Then i came across this & the other one about that girls brother & i thought "what a sign"
I mean, usually no one posts regarding smoking in here so it was a blessing to see this on this particular day!
Can't wait to hear back from someone!
