Alcohol and Chantix??

I've been nicotine free for around 135 days now with the help of Chantix. I used to chew snuff during the day and smoke when I drank beer in the evenings. After starting chantix I cut down my drinking so I wouldn't be as tempted to smoke, but I very rarely cut it out. I hate to admit it, but if people knew how much I drank in a week, I'm sure that I would be considered a functioning alcoholic. Anyhow, the reason that I am telling this story is that I have noticed that since I've been on Chantix for a while I haven't been "thirsty" for a beer. When I drank, I did it out of habit and didn't drink as much. Recently I noticed that I can take it or leave it.

It wasn't until I saw a news article a few days ago saying that Chantix may help alcoholics that I even really tied the two together.

This stuff may prove to be good news for heavy drinkers too.

Re: Alcohol and Chantix??

Hi Tom, I read that at work today. I can see why it might work. I have been on Chantix for almost three months and hardly drink. I did not drink that much before but surely did smoke with it. You sound like you are one of the success stories on Chantix, keep up the good work.

Re: Alcohol and Chantix??

Hi Wakeman, Just noticed that you are from Windham, I just moved to Portland and just love it. It great to have a quit buddy so close. I am also on Chantix and have to agree with all the posting on the drinking, (just don't feel like it). Well welcome and hope to see you post and let us know how your doing.

Re: Alcohol and Chantix??

Monger, Congratulation... It's not easy but I will tell you the Chantix will help and as time goes by (you may not believe it now ) the urges do become less and less. I thought coffee was going to be my big trigger but I found if I brought up my routine and drank it somewhere else it was ok. I now drink it at the kitchen table and post. Best of luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Jean
