| Re: Trying to stop smoking!
Emz,
Welcome to the boards and good luck on your quit. To really give you some good tips, we would like to hear more about your quit plan. Are you using an aide such as patches or pills or are you going cold turkey? Have you already started or are you planning a future date?
There are many very helpful people on this site that will help you out. I will start with a few of the things that helped me.
Breathe - when you are having a craving, stop, close your eyes, take several deep breaths. In through the mouth, out through the nose. Relax.
Drink water - make sure you drink at least 6 - 8 oz glasses of water per day. More would be better. This will help flush the nicotine out of your system.
Walk - during those times when you would normally take a smoke break, take a short, brisk walk.
Change your routine - if you normally light up after a meal, plan to do something different at that time.
Reward yourself for milestones - make sure you acknowledge the milestones along the way and find a way to reward yourself. Or, place the money you would spend on smokes into a jar and at the end of a year, treat yourself to a vacation.
That is just a few things off the top of my head. Also, look back through some of the past posts. There is a vast array of good information.
