Hi! I'm new to Healthboards. I recently quit smoking (4 months, with Nicoderm) and will occasionally dream that I've slipped. In the dream, I love that I'm smoking, of course, but after I wake up and realize I've "cheated", I feel so much quilt. I know, silly.
I truly don't want to be a smoker. I smoked for over 30 years. It costs too much, it stinks, it's unhealthy, and it kills. So, why do I miss it so much?
I've also gained over 20lbs. Arrrgggggg!
Thanks for reading and any support ya got, I'm in need of it. BigTime. lol
A new non-smoker, Linda
Hi Linda,
I have only been a non smoker for 2 1/2 weeks. I have those same type of dreams. I think it is pretty normal. when I wake up and realize it was nothing but a dream, I actually have to laugh. It's just that darn NicoDemon trying to get me. Just keep on fighting. You are stronger than nicotine. As for the weight gain...I haven't even bothered to start an exercise program yet. I can only fight one battle at a time and right now I am fighting not to smoke.
Thanks for the reply. So your using Nicoderm? That's how I quit. It works if your serious about quitting.
This is the second time for me. I quit a few years ago on the patch and was clean for 10 months. Then my bil came to visit and I blamed him for starting back up. lol
Gotta blame someone, right? lol
I'm here for ya, if you need to talk about it. We can support each other and have a b*tch fest together. lol
I am determined to lose this weight and still stay smoke free.
Ttyl,
Linda
I am qitting....if you need some additional inspiration...go to the lung cancer board on this site...it may help you realize you are doing the right thing for the right reason...take care...and good luck w/ quitting...
I have been smoke free for 15 months and I occasionally have dreams where I am smoking. In the last one I regretted it. Usually I don't feel one way or the other. Godbless
Hello,
I have quit smoking now for 17 months. I still quite often think about smoking...........but I won't. I've dreamt about it and whenever I feel bad or have a problem I think I'd feel better if I had a smoke. But ..............I won't. My major motivation for not smoking is the horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE withdrawal it took me several months to go through to get to where I am today. I think it's ok to think about it as long as it ends there. Good Luck
Thanks all for the support, thoughts, and feedback.
Especially you, Ann.
Ya gotta have a sense of humor with this thing, I swear. Or we'd all
go nuts. lol
Anyone else have sore jowls from all the gum chewing and hard candy sucking? Just wondering.
Not only do I have sore jaws and raw spots BUT...I have actually managed to draw blood my chewing my own cheek. This is what happens when you chew your gum 50 M.P.H.
No, I am not using Nicoderm. I call the little monsor that tries to get me to smoke the Nico DEMON..lol...I am using Chantix. I quit for 3 months using the patch but went back to smoking so I thought I'd try this approach.
Roflmao! That's too funny. I, too, had rawness in my mouth at the beginning.
From the hard candy I wasn't use to eating.
I wonder when that particular need goes away? The constant need to have something going on in your mouth. lol
After 4 1/2 months...I'm still chewin' and suckin'.
Anyway, sending a hug and a prayer for continued strength.
Linda
