| benefits of quitting cigarettes- not sure about this one??
Hi everyone,
I have been visiting various sites on the internet researching positive benefits of stopping smoking and it's all great news with the exception of the below supposed 'benefit' . After 15-20 years of quitting The risk of lung, throat, oesophageal or bladder cancer is the same as for a non-smoker. But heavy smokers (20 a day) have double the risk of lung cancer for the rest of their lives.
Maybe I have read this wrong but does this mean that regardless if you quit or continue smoking, if you smoked more than 20 a day the risk of lung cancer will always be there?? Is there someone on this board with a medical background that can maybe answer this question? Thank you.
