My Mood: Amused

44 months on the 8th! It can be done!

I am so happy to have quit smoking and having 44 months smoke free just yesterday is beyond my wildest imagination of what I could have done when I first was thinking about quitting again.

My taste, smell, and breathing is better, I bike to work and back now, continue to hike, swim, and all sorts of stuff. I would have been out of breath by noon back when I was a 2 pack of day smoker.

Just wanted to come back and say it can be done and you are all so worth it. September 8, 2005 was my Independence Day and the first day of the rest of my life (one day at a time of course) as a smoke free and healthy woman.

Keep up the great work here and the support.

Karen

Thumbs down Re: 44 months on the 8th! It can be done!

How did you do with the cravings? I quite on 4/23/08, but have smoked some since then. Last was 3 weeks ago. I crave them continously and even dream about them. Is that normal? Smoker for 25 years, 2 packs a day. Anybody's story would be a great help!

Re: 44 months on the 8th! It can be done!

debberd, you're going to have cravings, withdrawals, dreams ... whatever you want to call them. Every week that you're off of the nicotine, the cravings lessen and life gets better. I'm eleven months past my quit time and just last week I dreamed that I purchased a CARTON of my old brand and was chain smoking them outside. LOL It's not going to happen. After thirty five years of smoking, that long-time habit isn't just going to vanish. It will always be in the back of my mind, but every week pushes it a little further back. It's not going to be easy for you, and there's no one that can do it for you. If quitting smoking is this tough, can you imagine what a heroin addict or cocaine user is like when they try to quit? It's tough, but there's no more significant improvement that YOU can do to improve your health and life. You've already made the decision to quit. Now, carry that action out today. Take one day at a time, and you'll get through it. Put some faith in yourself and get on with it. Be sure to stop back and check this forum out occassionally. The next "quitter" is going to need some help and support from you.
