Day 8 on Chantix - Smoking Cessation Message Board

I'm on Day 8. What should I be feeling at this stage? I have cut down a lot , but still have the urge to smoke, especially in the mornings.

When do the smokes start tasting bad. I love Chantix and I know it's helping me, but I can't throw the smokes away yet. I'm down to only 5 or 6 per day from a pack a day habit.

The cigarettes never tasted bad for me - I just had no more urge to smoke. I went through only two maintenance packs and one morning I just didn't want a cigarette. I also quit the Chantix about 5 days after I quit smoking. It has been 11 days since I had a cigarette, and I still don't want one. I recognize times during the day when I would ordinarily smoke (the triggers), like after I eat, getting on the phone, etc. but there is no craving to light up. Keep it up - you'll do great!

they started tasting bad for me on about the 10th day then I got down to 1 a day
it does take a bit of willpower to quit the last 1 a day, cause then you have quit
but you will quit

How many days did it take you to get finished with two maintenance packs? My doctor just prescribed Chantix and it was filled at the Rx store just like regular medication. I'm wondering because I've been sorta going by the paperwork that came with the medicine. Thanks! P.J.

Pam1550, I believe that I finally said "I quit" on the second or third day after I started taking the Chantix. The Chantix didn't agree with me in the recommended dose, so I cut back from the instructions. Initially, I took one pill per day, and then after about a month, I cut back to 1/2 a pill per day. I still had some cravings, but I know that the Chantix was enough of a crutch to help me get by - no one ever said it was going to be easy. That was seventeen months ago after having smoked for 35+ years. I haven't purchased a pack of smokes since. I have tried a puff or two since, and darn near fell on the floor, so I know my system's been cleaned out. I still get the urge every once and awhile, but I have no intentions of going back to smoking. I never want to have to go through that quitting process again!
