Why do I stil get a buzz?????

Im on day 10 with Chantix. I'm still smoking 4-6 a day,own from a pack a day habit. That's good , but why do I still get a buzz off of the cigarrette if Chantix is supposed to block the nicotine receptors???
I'm finding it hard to just put them dowm. I want to, but it's dufficult.
So far I'm not impressed with Chantix, maybe I expected too much.

Robin

Re: Why do I stil get a buzz?????

I was still getting a buzz from smoking (this is the second time I have used Champix to give up so I thought it wasn't going to work) until I decided to stop smoking all together. My first day I had a cigarette before bed (I went all day without one) and I found that I didn't get a buzz of it, it was pointless smoking it. Maybe you should try that?

Lindy - Free and Healing for Five Days, 11 Hours and 43 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 11 Hours, by avoiding the use of 137 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $25.73.

Re: Why do I stil get a buzz?????

Hi Robin! I must admit I have never tried Chantix, but I do know that whenever I began to take an antidepressant, I automatically began to lose my interest in smoking and I would decrease the amount of cigarettes I would smoke. Perhaps you could tell me: Are you suppose to decrease the amount that you smoke according to a schedule? I have no idea how Chantix works so this is why I ask. I know that back in January which is when I stopped it was a stinker in the beginning as far as fatigue and depression so I needed some kind of help and took the AD. Unfortunately, I was going manic on it so I stopped. I will say a prayer that this craving is taken from you. God bless and be well--Hopeto--

Re: Why do I stil get a buzz?????

With Chantix you are suppossed to smoke as usual the first week and then stop completly. I couldn't do it and I've read alot of others couldn't either.
I am on week 3 and still smoking 3 to 4 smokes a day.
I will say that noe I feel like I am fighting the pysyc part of this addiction. All of the nicotine is out of my system by now.
I have smoked for 40 years so down to 3-4, to me, is quite an accomplishment.
I'll keep trying to get rid of those last few.

Robin

Re: Why do I stil get a buzz?????

Chantix is not the "OFF" button for smoking - it's a tool that helps YOU to quit. The key here is that YOU have to decide to quit .... and then do it.
It's not going to be easy, with or without Chantix. I found that Chantix was just the crutch that I needed to help me get through the process. And, you can bet I still had some cravings. I still do today, over a year later. But the cravings aren't as bad today as they were the day before, and they are less frequent. YOU can do it. Use whatever tool is necessary to help you cope with the demons that go with it, but make the decision to quit and then act!
I wish you well!
