How to Quit Smoking? (Again)

Hi guys,

I need some help on quitting smoking. I've been smoking for years, and I have decided to quit smoking (again). I tried to stop before, but it didn't work out for me. I did the patch, but it only lasted for a week or so. The gum worked, but I got addicted to the gum that I went back to stop the gum chewing. I have heard stories about smokers going 'cold turkey' and it has worked for them. I'm doing the cold turkey route, but I'm afraid of what might happen when I start suffering from withdrawal. What should I do?

Dont worry cang1! I went through your EXACT same situation 6 years ago, as did my mother this past year. We went to therapy for it and, long story short, the best thing to do was listen to music! Nothing to exciting, but just relaxing music, like classical music or something.

HELLO cang1 the only way to stop smoking is to throw away all your ashtrays and find some thing else to do . i also stop smoking i have 16 teen days in! i'm on the patch to it's 21mg the first step patch. you can do it all you have to do is get your mind engaged and keep on telling your self your doing the right thing. i've smoke for 31 years. and i'm 43 years old and the only thing i keep telling myself is think of all the money i'm saving!! and it works plus i tell my self i want to be here for my family a little longer! start telling your self that while on the patch. and chew alot of gum to it helps alot. I hope this works for you .

Re: How to Quit Smoking? (Again)

Cang1 I'm at 3yrs quit cold turkey. You just have to expect to feel like S#*! for a while there's no way around it. Drink lots of water, go for walks, exercise, root beer barrell candies help with the nausia (sp?),lots of rest, and tell everyone your quitting so they'll understand when for absolutely no reason at all your a Pr**k. Oh yeah expect to be a little depressed also. But all this lifts after around 3 months. The first week will be the worst but once your through that you don't have to think about quitting the gum or the patch or the pill your done that's it.

It also helped me that I didn't plan a day to do it I just woke up one morning and thought let's see how far I can go without one, and some people on the board use the time counter minutes of life saved mony saved thingy but I believe that just keeps you focused on smoking so it is my advice to just quit and forget about it. Most important thing is to want to do it not feel like you have to and it's punishment that friend is the kEY.

Good luck I look forward to hearing about your progress.

well that was a good e-mail i got this morning? from someone one who know best about quitting this lady shot me out of the water? but thats ok i'm not smoking over what she said to me!!!! and thats how you handle crap like that ! if you don't want to save the money then think of it this way. your saving your own health that better than anything. and if you have kids your doing it for them so you will be around longer. and that will help you to.
