I stop smoking but I am bloated, please help

I am 42 years old and have smoked since I was 17, I stopped smoking 4 months ago on my own. I was doing great the first 2 weeks when I developed a bitter taste in my mouth. It got bad enough I ended up going to my dentist 2 weeks later. Nothing was found in my mouth that was causing it.

I then went to my local doctor to find the solution; during this time some minor bloating and breathing disconfort started. I mention this to my doctor and she said my body was changing since I was not smoking. The taste has not went away and the bloating has gotten worse.

I now was sent to my local surgeon, he did all new blood work and check me for bacteria nothing was coming back, everything showing to be perfect. He ask me to get a CT scan. The CT came back no problems found; he then asked me to ge a Heida Scan to rule out gall bladder. Came back perfect, no issues with the gall bladder. I was then ask to have a upper GI and scope. I did that last week and everything came back normal. I have had a colonoscopy this week and everything normal.

I have gone up 2 waist sizes while loosing weight and have a massive stomach ache along with the pregnant look. My friends pick on me and say when are you due. I am male so I will never be due. I am at wits end and miserable.

I went today and got some emzymes in pill form along with some probiotics and I am drinking lots of water. I have an appointment next week with a GI specialist. If this doesn't soon get better I may have to go back to smoking and see if it dissappears.

If you have any tid-bit of information that may help please post.

Re: I stop smoking but I am bloated, please help

I found my problem and fixed it today. I was operated on today to take out my gall bladder. Smoking didnt cause this but I do think it was masking it somewhat. The reason I say this is because of the fact that smoking helps speed up digestion. As soon as I stopped smoking I starting having these systems because my digestion slowed down causing my stomach to produce more acid since my gall bladder was not working and creating bile. Just a thought of mine but I wanted to share with everyone here.

Wow, just finding this post. I just had my gallbladder out but I quit smoking almost 3 years ago.

After quitting I had some serious gas issues for a few weeks so I thought that might have been what was contributing to your issue.

I hope you are feeling better now.

Re: I stop smoking but I am bloated, please help

The scan showed my gall bladder was on working at 26%, but my doctor didn't think that was the issue from the symtoms I was having. My Gastro. specialist said it was my gall bladder. The doctor that removed it said it had legions on it and at some point it had been swoll up and infected. The doctor said it was most likely my issue. One of my main symtoms was my stomach size would go up 3 to 4 inches when I was bloated and then go back down. I also felt as though I had the stomach ache or I had over eat. I am feeling better but have a few of the symtoms still remain but seem to be getting better.
