Day 2 - cold turkey

Hi all!
I have been smoking for over 30 years. I am not new to this quitting an addiction thing. I celebrated 18 months drug free 2 days ago, and on that day I decided it was time to quit this nasty habit, too. I finished the pack I had in the late afternoon. I have not had a cigarette since. The cravings are killing me! I don't remember them being this bad when I was getting clean. I know these boards are a great place for support and could really use some now! Any suggestions or advice?

Keep going girl you can do it! The resulting good to your body will be worth it! I know we used to tell some of our alcoholics well can you get through another minute without a drink and they would say, yeah, then at the end of that minute we would say it again. You could also increase increments of time until you are clean for good!

you could visit this thread under sjb post for some things I told others. Just right click on the address copy and paste it into the search window.

Re: Day 2 - cold turkey

You can do it!!! Definitely a hard thing, as you know, but stick with it---soo many benefits!!!

I went cold turkey, and it's been over four months for me now. Cravings not too bad and far and few between at this point.

Try reading, if you have the time, to get your mind off it--seems to put you in another world if it is a good book and help you forget about things.

Try to think of how much money you will save. I have saved a ton already!!

Try chewing some gum if you have to;
stay away from other smokers if possible.

Everytime you have a craving say to yourself No, I will not smoke anymore. I am healthy now!!

Try to celebrate every little milestone--mark on a calendar or tell people, "I have made it 2 weeks, etc.

Talk to other quitters for support, on here, or wherever.

I will be here to listen if you need it.

Good luck, you WILL succeed!!!

Re: Day 2 - cold turkey

congratulations on your 18mo thats great. I know what you mean, I have 25yrs sober but having a terrible time s/cigs. I was told I have SEVERE COPD & decided to stop AGAIN, it's harder then my other addiction was. One of the problems is I'm so tired feel like sleeping all the time.
