I'm so annoyed with myself - Smoking Cessation Message Board

I had no idea giving up smoking would be so hard.

I started 10 yrs ago as a social smoker and was able to handle the odd cigarette only on a night out. Then of course it crept up on me and for the last 8 yrs or so I've been on 25 a day. I thought it would be easy to stop. I never really thought of myself as an ADDICT!

My previous posts were about the nicotine patches which at first were fantastic and the cravings disappeared completely. Now though, since a night out of boozing and smoking, I'm back on to a packet a day.

I managed almost a whole month of being free of these things and now just one temptation and I'm back to where I started.

Reading everybody's stories I realise that no-one seems to have done this on/off thing. Did you all just manage to quit and STAY quit? Did you all just wake up one day and say 'thats it'. And if so - why cant I do that?

If anyone out there can relate to what I'm going through I'd love to hear from you, as right now I just cant seem to see a light at the end of this very hazy, smokey tunnel. My will-power has hit rock bottom - I doubt I will ever be a non-smoker.

Please don't give up.....I have done the same thing. I am getting ready to quit again. Cancer runs really bad in my family and I know I have to quit. I am 46 and in good health so far. I have quit before for almost 7 months and it felt great. You feel so good and have a good outlook towards life. I will let you know how I am doing. Take Care and remember keep trying it will happen for you.
