smoke odor - Smoking Cessation Message Board

I know this may not be with this forum is really for, but I was wondering what can I do to get rid of the smoke odor out of my clothes. I dont smoke, but my mom does, and I have to smell like smoke all of the time and I get tired of ppl telling me that.

any advice would help thanx

The odour is quite frankly the least of your problems if people say you smell of smoke because you live with a smoking parent. Your mother is seriously harming you by making you breathe her smoke, and she should be smoking outdoors only if she has any consideration for your health. Hasn't she heard of passive smoking? She is effectively causing a huge risk to your health because you are breathing the smoke too. How old are you? Are you in a position to move out or can you at least ask her not to smoke around you? It's about respecting your space and your health and any mother who refuses to do this is not a fit person to have children. Kids have become estranged from their parents for far less abuse than what you are going through, your mother needs a wake-up call now. I suffered the same thing and my health as a child was dreadful. Your mum can slowly kill herself if she wants but what right has she got to kill you too?

yea i tell her about all of the second hand smoke risks, but she just thinks its all a joke. I already have asthma, and im pretty sure that the smoking is not going to help. She refuses to go outside to smoke and theres really nowhere i can go im 16. People always tell me that i smell like cigarettes, and she also thinks thats a joke and that nobody says that. so i at least want to try not to smell like cigarettes because of her.

This is ABUSE, I would see someone for legal advice right away because it might be possible to get the court to order her not to smoke indoors, especially with you being asthmatic. It has been done as a child protection issue before where the parents were not together and one parent took the other to court to stop them smoking around the child. You didn't mention your father is he around? Is there anyone else in your family you can get on your side and what about your doc? No doctor would say it was OK to smoke around an asthmatic kid!
I've never been diagnosed asthmatic but I know what you are going through because my mum was the same

I could give you ideas on how to get smoke odors out of your clothes. But it would be pointless because you live with a smoker who smokes in the house. I agree with the other posters that this is a form of abuse. Start by asking the doctor who treats your asthma to talk to your mother about the problem and to recommend to her that she smoke outside your house. When I was still a smoker, I smoked outside voluntarily because I didn't want my house to smell like smoke and my husband was allergic to smoke. So I know that it can be done. You can't make her quit but it certainly isn't difficult to decide to smoke outside only.
