Lightbulb all of your best advise needed

Greetings to you all. I am 30 and have been struggling to quit for 5 years as this is my 14th anniversary with this hideous addiction I thought I should ask you all for your best advice on how to go about this. The longest that I have gone without is 4 months. I know that the ciggarettes are making me sick inside as I can feel it. My problem is that i still like to smoke. I feel very weak but I hate what these things are doing to me. I am very alone in the city I live in and most of my family has passed away. I need to do his for my little boy-he hears me say 'well I'm quit' and then he sees me smoking the next day. I hate what I'm doing. Please help. Wish you all the best.Thank you

Thumbs up

i just quit a few months ago.. get catnip, and rolling papers.. really.. when you want a 'cig', roll a fake one.. after a bit, your mind goes "want cig.. *thinks about catnip-cig* nah.. that is really unsatisfying.." and DONT keep ANY around.. if they're there, you'll smoke 'em.. and you will always like smoking.. i still remember it fondly.. but your withdrawl will taper off and disappear.. i still want a cig.. i just can say 'no' comfortably now.. during the first month it is hell on earth, BUT IT IS SOOOOOO WORTH IT!! i do yoga now, i can even RUN without coughing or feeling fatalistic about my health.. being able to work an entire shift and not 'need' to go outside in the rain and get dizzy from that 'first one in a while' cig..

i used to smoke djarum clove cigs.. one of the highest concentrations of nicotine, and i say that now because i had no idea when i started how addictive they were and how terrible.. when i read how bad they were for me in an artice recently, i rejoiced internally for my triumph over the terrible addiction..

it is the most addictive drug on the planet, but we are stronger than any addiction.. put your mind, body and soul into it.. do it for your child.. PUT THEM DOWM and NEVER pick them up again, and DO it.. dont give in.. you Can Say No.. it hurts.. badly.. but it does get easier after the first week.. then slowly better and better.. i still want to smoke.. i just dont..

good luck in your struggle..

i am doing the nicoderm patch. it works physically, mentally is another matter. stay in non smoking areas wherever you go. someone else suggested bathing instead of showering, sounds funny, but it works. you'll be wrinkled, but it buys some time. i am stepping down to step 3 (7mg a day) in 2 days. am i ready? not really, but i have to do this. i feel better everyday that i don't smoke. it's a mind set. set your mind. good luck.

I did the patch too but I did half the program by cutting the time in half for each dosage type. That helped with the nicotine addiction. For the "do something with the hands" addiction I found a fake plastic cigarette that was supposed to taste like a cigarette. It didn't taste like one at all but it sure kept my hands thinking that I was still smoking . It seems to have worked because I haven't smoked for 1 year 4 months and 29 days. Good luck. I hope you find what works for you.
