Quit for 15 months ago, sick ever since. - Smoking Cessation Message Board

Hi everybody, I am very happy to report that both my wife and I have been smoke free for about 15 months now. Our determination was mainly because of the impact smoking would have on our precious little boy.
Anyway, since quiting, I have been sick. My wife is doing fine, but I have been suffering from 'vestibular disorder' like symptoms. (Stress, ringing in the ears, unsteadiness, short-term memory lapses, stuck for words, confusion, etc,etc,etc...) I have been on numerous medications, including Paxil for about 8 months, but to no avail. My doctor is stumped, my ENT specialist doesn't seem to know what is going on, and I am on the brink of being disabled as far as my career goes. Any thoughts or suggestions are very welcomed.

Hi, Hlambert. I'm sorry to hear you've had health problems since quitting! I hope you can resolve these problems soon. I know that not smoking did not cause you to get sick. It was just an unlucky co-incidence, is all. I would also bet that your not smoking is going to be what helps your body get better. I have read many posts from people who quit smoking, only to soon afterwards find out they have a lung disease. Its just plain old bad luck. At least you can know that you're doing what you can to be healthy (by not smoking). I hope you get better soon! Deb

Maybe it's something more physical, and less mental?
Meniere's disease? It's a inner ear thing - do a search for info... or something similar?

Just a shot, but had you been on any acid blockers like prilosec? (or any new meds around the time this started?) I had some of the same effects on prilosec. Had a mri of the brain EEG all kind of balance test, all came back normal. Good luck congrats on the smoking, I only went 3 months. BOb
