Quitting isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It wasn't a picnic, but - after the withdrawal part was over, a whole new world opened up for me and I'm finding out how much I missed all the years I smoked.
I also have COPD - developed it in my early - mid 30s - it can be brought to very slow crawl if you quit NOW - if you don't quit now you can end up like me - I went on smoking and had cancer at the age of 38. LUNG CANCER. They took out part of my lung.
I always thought lung cancer was an old age thing. I mean if you quit before 40, 50 , 60 , 70, you'd be okay. Somebody somewhere told me - recently - it was rare for anyone under 40 to get lung cancer -
I've met MANY in their 30s and 40s with lung cancer the past couple years . Most have been women. Most do not make it.
I'm very serious. I was nursing my baby when it was discovered I had lung cancer. That ended the nursing! It ended a lot of things. Fortunately, I am still alive.
The word needs to be gotten out that there are lots of people who die in their 30s from lung cancer. I never knew - until I got it myself.
The 5 year survival rate - of lung cancer - is something like 14%.
Quitting smoking - is not a matter of TRYING - you DO it but you have to WANT to - you have to WANT to live - without the information that your life is at stake - it is hard to realize how much you WILL want to live - many find out too late. Lung cancer has no symptoms other than bronchitis sometimes - until it is very late, beyond treatment doing any good.
