Hey Girl,
You have done well. You are home and made it this far.
I found the first three weeks the hardest and felt the same about the pills. YUK. However, you may just need them. Drink lots of fluids; ginger ale, water and try to stay hydrated so the dry mouth isn't as plaguing.

I feel for you and remind you that it will get better. I lived on crackers and water and juice. I didn't hardly eat and lost 10 lbs in three weeks no problem. It is a very difficult time and you really just sleep and rest from one day to the next.

If you need the ice pack buy a few and remember no more than 15 minutes as it will have reverse relief if maintained longer. Vitamin E oil when your courage allows you can also be put on the incision; for me, after the stitches were out. It really helps reduce scarring and swelling and when you can use it you can feel it making the incision tighten up on the inside of your throat. My incision was gross and now 10 weeks later it is fallen into the low groove in my neck, is a little red but i am so pleased i am not SCARFACE.

So rest, eat and drink a little a couple of times a day, and don't do anything (like swiffer like I tried) and you will come up to scratch like the rest of us.

I'll pray for your recovery and I wish you a better outcome than what you have had to endure my dear.

Sincerely, Nero

Welcome home. Are you taking the meds on an empty stomach? If so you may want to try taking them with meals. My wife can't stomach medication on an empty stomach. The 1st week or two I ate (drank) a lot of soup and jello because of the swelling in the throat. If you eat solid food take small bites and chew very good. Have plenty of liquid handy to wash it down. You may want to try sleeping in a recliner for a few days anyway. If you can stomach it try a Tylenol PM before bed. It helped knock me out so I could sleep better.

Good luck
Frank

Hi
My surgery was Dec 1, I slept in a recliner for at least three weeks. I still revert to it some nights. Keep a glass of water and straw close all the time. Also be sure if you are not using a recliner that you do not lie flat for a week or so. Lying flat can increase the swelling in your throat. Did you have a fusion? If so be sure not to use Advil, Motrin or other anti-inflammatories. Use Extra Strength Tylenol when your not using your pain meds. I was told anti-inflammatories inhibit the fusing process. Guess that is all the opinion I have to offer. Good healing
