Could spinal problem cause all of this? - Spinal Cord Disorders Message Board

Hi Everyone,

for the last several years I have been suffering from knee and ankle pain. Not only do my knees and ankles hurt but my calf and thigh muscles ache frequently. I always figured it was hard work that caused the pain so I never really persued the prob. Several months ago I had back to back to back flu like symptoms and became dizzy and spaced soon after. Well I have been dizzy\lightheaded and spaced out/brainfog ever since and have been unable to work because of it. My legs still hurt sometimes very bad and my lower back and pelvic area are hurting more frequently too. I have no idea if the problems are related. The docs thought my dizziness is anxiety related so they put me on paxil. 6 months on paxil has not helped and may be causing more problems. I get hot/cold sensation in my back and arms and this started a month after starting paxil. I could be wrong, it may be other symptoms.

Back to the leg pain and back pain. I am 35 years old. Could these problems be linked? Is there any OTC drugs to relieve pain, advil does not work. At one time advil did work. Also I was getting severe head and neck aches
but they have subsided since I started paxil. Could a spinal cord problem cause these symptoms?

Does anyone know what is going on with me?

Derek,

Have you seen a neurologist or neurosurgeon about these symptoms or just your primary care physician? If you haven't, then I would highly suggest doing so, and if you have, I'd get a second opinion from another one to do some tests to find out why you have these symptoms. I would think as a minimum they should be doing an MRI to see if there are any problems along your spine or brain. These symptoms are coming from some cause, and you need to push your docs until you get answers, don't let them dismiss your symptoms as minor, these are pretty serious. I hope someone else comes along here shortly who may have more to offer you than my limited experience can. I wish you the best of luck in getting the answers you deserve!

I agree with the previous post. I too have cervical disk problems but have now also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia that complicates the pain in my neck. There are studies that suggest that the fibromyalgia may come out of a trauma to the body. My symptoms didn't start until after my neck injury so it makes sense. Anyway, ask to be referred to a neurologist or worse case, refer yourself. It's done all the time....
