ACDF Postop 1 yr AND now ******** is unbearable

I had ACDF with titanium fusion and a corpectomy over 1 year ago.
During the recovery, I didn't use my spine that much and had poor support when sleeping.

I have heard that other people right about this time post-op from neck surgery DO develop great back trouble anyway.

Can anybody share any info or resources to help me out?

Here is the data on my ******** :
After an accident my MRI 1 yr ago showed:
()L4-L5: Small posterior annulus (outer wall) fissure
()L4-L5 has minor DISC bulge 2.67 mm is size of disc bulge.
()L5 -S1 has 3.78 mm bulge that is still rather small.
()L5-S1 Left side protrusion resulting in slight foraminal stenosis on Left side.
()My L leg is 0.5 inches too short because L hip is too hi.

Things have degraded. Now when I rotate my lumbar area OR lean forward, there is now a pretty loud cracking sound that is new. What could this mean ---- could it be bone rubbing on bone?

Any help or resources would be appreciated.

Re: ACDF Postop 1 yr AND now ******** is unbearable

fkissam,I did it just in reverse,I had sever stenosis of l4 and l5,it was something I dealt with for about 12 yrs, pain wise it would be pretty bad, spasms that would make me grip the wall, but then after a few days it would go away, well one day it came ,and the pain left, but I began haveing Bladder probs,to the point where I could not go potty, or as bad as this sounds, I actually wet the bed twice, that is what set me running to the doc, which sent me to the NS I have now,the surgery was better then 3 hrs long, and a 4 day hosp stay, now this disc thing with my neck, I will admitt I had some signs prior to the back surgery, but at the time I thought it was a shoulder issue from driveing school bus, untill one day it came on and damn if it did'nt go right to unbearable pain,I sat in a recliner for 3 weeks unable to lay flat, crying, docs were handing out pain meds like candy, and I was eating them the same, but really all they did was make me stupid, did not touch the pain, I guess in a sense I was lucky, cuz I was already hooked up with the NS ,I seen him and one day later I was in surgery, so unlike so many people on this board, I received help alot faster.I never had any cracking sounds in my back, although I did in my neck, the hardest thing on the back is sitting, so try to move as best you can,and get some good anti inflameitories,I wish you the best and hope it resolves for you quickly.Diana

Re: ACDF Postop 1 yr AND now ******** is unbearable

Solardust,
Thanks for your reply. My heart also goes out to YOU.

It sounds like you had BOTH back and neck surgery. Are you OK now ... or is it like the cat wagging the dog's tail where one aggravates the other. That is what I have now.

Right now, I am trying to avoid back surgery while I heal from my neck surgery. It is so so so depressing to be in constant healing and then facing more surgeries.

I do find that sitting is the worst ... however, that is how computer work gets done.
Lying in bed can be somewhat painful. Walking is the best.

Keep sending the info and help!

Re: ACDF Postop 1 yr AND now ******** is unbearable

Yep,I had the two surgerys, the lower back June 7th, and the neck surgery Aug 13th, I had c5-6 fused for that, the one thing I have noticed about my lower back, is it has been causeing some pain since the neck surgery, and at first I thought it was from laying and sitting too much, but now I think what it is, is the collar causes me too twist at the waist to see things, and thats the problem causeing the lower back to hurt, so now I am mindful to turn all the way useing the feet,(whole body),lol watch them go next,my 17yr olsd daughter put on my spare collar and was imitateing me,haha, you know how if you are sitting and some one is kinda off to the side and behind, you have"ta turn with the waist and shoulders to see them, well she had me laughing my a_ _ off, honestly, anyway thats when it occured to me that my lower back is takeing the stress,ya know 7 yrs ago when I had the heart by pass surgery , I did not think I was ever gonna be the same again, but after a lengthy recovery here I am , lol,the point being when I first came home , I had to have a chair in the bathroom so I could rest between showering and changeing, and I was only 36 yrs old, well that passed, so I try to remember that time and put in to what is going on now, time is the great healer, knock on wood, lol lets keep in touch, Diana

Thanks for your message! I agree that time is a great healer ... but sure does heal slowly and it is quite difficult emotionally.

Let's stay in touch.
