c6/7 disectomy/fusion side effect question - Spinal Cord Disorders Message Board

I have had a c6/7 discectomy/fusion (July 2003) and keep experienceing a collapsing feeling in my throat. Almost like my windpipe is being bent to cut off air.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this and what their docs have said if anything.

I've only very recently had a c4-5 fusion with plate, and have not experienced what you describe. Have you told your doctor? I urge you to check it out just to make sure there's not a problem with anything moving around in your neck.

Hopefully it's just a sensation thing.

I had the fusion in July 2003. The orthopedic doc says it's nothing he has done but I have had this side effect since the operation. My regular doc has sent me to a ENT who's first comment was how large my tonsils were for an adult. But this ENT did a probe and is telling me it's acid reflus. Put me on a medication for two months which is about to end and isn't working. I was hoping that someone else may be experiencing this same effect.

Gee's it seems every post I can relate to almost,I had that feeling you mention, mostly when eating, my first experiance was while eating a candy orange slice(you can search my posts, if ya want a laugh)I really thought it was the damn candies fault,but the it became a scary little friend,I asked my NS, he blew it off, just told me to keep water nearby,I never did find out what caused it, but Thank goodness it went away,I pray it will go away for you to, cuz I know its pretty scary when it happens,just the sensation of it, gets the heart beating,Dianap.s small bites! and yes water does help, small sips, luke warm
