ACDF and ADR

Can someone please tell me what ACDF stands for. Also has anyone had either experience or heard of ADR ( artificial disc replacement ). I am now 2 years post op from cervical laminectomy with fusion. The main problem I had before surgery was an inability to walk easily. I walked as though I was drunk. That problem has not improved.

ACDF = Anterior Cervical Disketomy and Fusion

Have you discussed the continued gait issue with your physicians/surgeon?

Re: ACDF and ADR

Eagle,

We're all a little different when it comes to how well or fast we heal. I had a 3 level acdf 4-22. I too had and still have the gait issues. I had a second surgery 4-06 to repair the first that had failed. Still have the gait issues. My Dr told me, as did my first surgeon that max recovery would be reached in about a year from the nerve issues, which cause the "drunken gait". Ask your Dr/physical therapist about this and they will advise you on the best course for max recovery. If he doesnt have anything positive to say, consult another specialist. It aint over till YOU say it's over, never forget that. You can always stregthen the rest of your body, which will make you feel better in general. Search some of the things sunshine has done.

As to the adr, I only know what I read on here.

Best of luck to you, and do check out sunshine. Also, if you have additional disk issues you may want to research what bw67 has been through.

Mike

Eagle:

Yes, Mike and I are both the main posters here with gait issues from c-spine stenosis. I had cervical laminectomy w/o fusion 9/05. Still have gait issues although other symptoms - weakness, tremors - are improved. I'm seeing a neuromuscular specialist at a teaching hospital this week. I'll report back.
