Do Corizone shots work for you? - Spinal Cord Disorders Message Board

Hi Fine Friends,

I'm having no improvement from the dbl.acdf surgery

& its been 12 weeks so my doc's trying Cortizone shots in my right arm & maybe at pressure points at the base of my head for my headache as well.

Has anyone had this help for arm or head pain?
If so, how long did it last, if you remember. Does it hurt as much as when they shot cortizone in my wrist for carple-tunnel? (In other words, will I need a ride home?)

Just wondering about your experiences. My arm pain continues to render me ...basically usless. I'm really hoping this will work since both docs say the surgery really should've worked by now. Possible permanent nerve damage.

We'll keep hoping for the nerves to heal up now that they're supposedly free. Otherwise, grab on to my "new-normal" right?

Personally, I would ask for an MRI with contrast BEFORE subjecting yourself to new things... There is no pain involved in that (other than a quick ***** in the arm) and will let the doctors know how things really look on the inside.

That way, you can know.. Ok. Everything really is good and maybe I just need more time.

My docs told me that while some people "wake up 100% better or close to it", others have pain for 3-6 months after surgery and a full recovery happens closer to a year.

Hi JackieH, I'm still new to all the head and neck treatments myself and I am scheduled for the injection also, but one thing that finally took my headaches away after almost a year was topamax. Mind you the side effects are not fun, but I feel like I've been let out of prison. If the injection works, if I actually decide to have it, I may be able to get off of the topamax. It was nerve damage in my neck causing the headaches, so the topamax did work for me. Someone mentioned the med to me in the pain management board, so I talked to my dr about it. He had no problem putting me on it. Within two days I was headache free. I've been on it a month and have only had one headache, and that was self-induced!! Good luck.
