nerve pain

I had c-spine surgery (foramanectamy) c5-6 last year. right now I am having nerve pain that comes and goes. It starts at either shoulder then can go to my wrist, arm or fingers It is not really bad, but just annoying. Also, I sometimes feel it going into my face by my jaw. And once in a while it goes down my leg. Like I said it is not really bad pain, but just annoying and worrysome. I was wondering if it could be something other than my disks in my c-spine or maybe it is in my head because I get really bad anxiety when I start feeling this.

A response would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: nerve pain

Hi - There are multiple pain or problem generators in our spines. One can be disc (like protrusions, herniations, shrinkage, etc.), another can be arthritis (osteophytes aka bone spurs), and there are several more. Even when they clean bone spurs out, you can grow more. You might want to schedule a one year follow-up appointment and get it checked out if it is bothering you or causing symptoms.

Re: nerve pain

i get nerve pain that is closely associated with this...almost like a "stinger" in football terms. it is as though an ice pick pierces several places in both shoulder areas. it reoccurs from time to time. my left shoulder has minimal movement from nerve damage due to paralysis...was the whole left side of body....i go to ns 2/01..will ask about radiating pain..gl..bryan

Re: nerve pain

If its been a year, and there hasn't been any recent films done, especially if this is new pain issues, you can always go back and ask for a new MRI done. This way you can be more possitive one what might be going on in there.
